Niño Feliz is a school for special needs students in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. The school consists of students with visual disabilities or blindness, deafness or hearing disabilities, cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, and autism. FNE International began projects at this school in approximately 2010. Over the years, many groups have come to the school including therapists, doctors, autism specialists, and teachers to provide resources and professional development. The topics for these workshops were determined by the needs of the staff and school. During COVID, FNEI coordinated virtual professional development. FNE International has funded visits from dentists, a yoga teacher, and the continuing salary of two assistant teachers, one for the autism classroom and one with the youngest children. In addition, FNEI built a sensory garden with activities to meet the sensory needs of the students. FNEI is in continual contact with the director and teachers of the school, listening and responding to their needs. Currently, we are helping Niño Feliz create a vegetable garden to supplement the kids’ meals as well as providing professional development training with doctoral students from our partner institution, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC
