In 2012 we helped coordinate the first cataract surgical mission with NGO Sights on Health (formerly Promise to Peru). These life-changing missions have restored sight for several hundred people from some of the most remote communities in the Sacred Valley, Cusco. In 2022, SOH returned to the Sacred Valley after theCOVID pandemic and completed 52 surgical procedures free of charge. This year, 2024, we just completed another mission where together we restored the sight of 78 patients mainly from rural communities in Cusco. Together with Asociación Wiñaypaq we find the surgical candidates and provide al l the pre and post surgical coordination. We hope to be able to expand the reach of this mission in the coming years as these are safe, proven surgeries that restore the candidates' sights and al low them to be more independent, regain their self-esteem and contribute to their household economy.
