Lima, Peru is a megacity. Home to 11 million people, unequal and fragile. Urbanization sprawled mainly in the peripheral areas where access to basic sanitation is lower than 50%. San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru’s most populous district (located in Lima) – with a current population that may have exceeded one million- has settlements like Minas de Pedregal where basic sanitation is an issue. Through a long-standing partnership with a local partner, Arrebol, FNE provides the necessary resources for families to build cost-effective dry bathrooms.
