Cuzco Projects

The city of Cuzco, at 3,400 meters above sea level, is located in a fertile valley in the heart of the central Peruvian Andes. Formerly the capital of the extensive Inca empire, Cusco is mainly a farming and mining department, and in the last decade, tourism has become one of the main economic activities in Cusco. However, the population of Cusco has marginally benefited from the increase in tourism and from the economic boom brought by high prices of commodities. While tourism is on the rise in the region, paradoxically so are levels of extreme poverty. Over 30% of children under the age of 16 are chronically malnourished or living in extreme poverty, and citizens (especially indigenous population) do not have access to adequate healthcare services, so people are forced to travel mostly by foot to neighboring towns.

FNE works closely with our community local partner, Asociacion Wiñaypaq, to provide sustainable medical services and treatment to communities like Yanatile. Soon, a housing project will take place in the rural community of Ccorimayo that will benefit deserving families who cannot afford dignified housing to lead a healthy life.
