Who are we?
We are a group of 17 first year Physician Assistant Students from Stony Brook University located on Long Island, NY. We will be working alongside U.S. physicians and PAs, as well as a physician from Nicaragua on our medical mission.
Our Project:
For our medical mission, we will be traveling to a village outside of Leon, Nicaragua to spend a week in a clinic providing healthcare to underserved communities who have limited access to these resources.
We will be providing primary medical care in the form of well visits and women’s care, as well as addressing the medical needs of children with chronic illnesses. We will also be providing health education lessons in order to impart sustainable practices in the communities we will be working with. During an additional portion of the mission, we will participate in building homes in some of the nearby communities.
These projects are important to further the access to health care and to instill continuing health education throughout the Leon area. At the same time, these experiences will allow us to expand our own understanding of health as future and current medical professionals.
How can you help?
Your donations will directly contribute to purchasing prescription medications, vitamins, and medical supplies needed for the clinic we are visiting. We will need a minimum of $3,000 to purchase all necessary medications and vitamins for every patient, as well as medical equipment to provide quality physical examinations on all patients.
Your support is much appreciated by us students and the entire community we will be working with!
